Yesterday we celebrated a sacred meal together, these two churches of Andrew Price and Hickory Bend. To see the people gathered, faces upturned, knees bent was a moment of grace, a moment when the veil between us and other, us and Holy and even us and us is pulled open a little way for us to better imagine what earth can become. A new heaven and a new earth is not just pretty language – – – it is us moving into where God is leading even here and even now.
Everything that we are doing with becoming a new church together is about moving with the Spirit of the living Christ into an increasingly relevant, increasingly missional and increasingly challenging way of being Church. The church is not things, not buildings, not even books and words and ideas – – – the Church is the people, just as that old song sings those beloved words. “I am the church! You are the church! We are the church together! All who follow Jesus, all around the world! Yes, We’re the church together!” ( “We Are the Church” by Richard K Avery and Donald S. Marsh in the United Methodist Hymnal at 558.)
How will you live with the wonder of Holy Communion into our world this week?
